【What is a Floating Spring Connector?】
Floating spring connector is one of Yokowo’s standard connector lineups.
Regular type of spring connectors are soldered on to PCBs or locked in position on the external/internal side of a product. Floating types don’t require soldering or locking it in position.
【Advantages of Floating Spring Connectors】
1) Solderless
The floating types can be used without soldering process. Simply place the connector between two contact points.
2) Cost Advantage
Instead of both sides of the connector being double sided pins, which are typically seen in competitor spring pins, Yokowo’s floating spring pins are designed to move from both sides within the socket, while only having one pin.
This brings cost advantages.
3) Sliding Action
Standard pogo pins are designed to be mated against pads in the vertical direction. On the other hand, floating spring pins can be mated horizontally (sliding action).
Since the whole pin works to absorb the gap between two contact points, the mating action is not limited to just a vertical compression.
4) Many Height Variations
Customers can choose from a wide range of height varieties for the floating spring pin, from 2.05 mm up to 13.5 mm.
Just like other connector types, floating spring pins are available for custom designs.
Dimensions: unique length, stroke length, radius at the contact point, etc.
Specifications: plating material, spring force, and other electrical/mechanical features

【Application Examples】
1) Camera Lens Mounting Interface
Since camera lenses are attached to a camera with a round mechanical interface, it often requires a sliding action to mate with the contacts, this is where Yokowo’s floating connectors are very popular.
2) Charging Cradle
Charging cradles have become common for many electronics. Floating spring connectors are often used for charger-to-device connections.
The distance between the charger side’s PCB and the device are often uneven, but the floating spring pins can adjust the mating position with compression. Floating pins can support the weight of the main body.
3) Devices Used in Stacks
Automated cashier systems are becoming more and more common. In some advanced examples, the shopping baskets are built in with electronic devices. When not in use, the baskets are stacked and charged at the same time.
When stacking devices, it is difficult to maintain a uniform mating distance, so wit Yokowo’s floating spring connector it is possible to absorb the fluctuation in distance.
Moreover, floating spring pins don’t require mating pads and can be directly mated against PCBs and terminals.
